Superior pediatric care throughout southeastern North Carolina
Coastal Children’s Services was formed in 2010 to expand pediatric specialty care in southeastern North Carolina. Our caring and compassionate pediatric professionals are trained for all levels of treatment required by young patients.
As a pediatric subspecialty group caring for children with complex conditions, Coastal Children’s Services physicians and nurse practitioners work collabora- tively with community hospitals, pediatricians and family practitioners to serve children throughout the region. We are continuously growing our network of specialized care providers to increase our value as a trusted source for parents in North Carolina. Our focus on continuing education and innovative care models enables us to provide our patients with standardized, high quality care.
Critically ill children up to age 18 are cared for 24/7 by the CCS team of highly specialized physicians and nurse practitioners with advanced training in pediatric intensive care. Through comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis and treatment, our goal is to provide the very best care during hospitalization.
Located within the Betty H. Cameron Women’s and Children’s Hospital at New Hanover Regional Medical Center are two units staffed by Coastal Children’s Services.
Our 17-bed Pediatric Unit provides care for children recovering from serious illness, injury or surgery. Every room on the unit is private, and designed to enable the child and parent to be together during a stressful time.
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit:
As the region’s only Level II Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) our team of highly trained professionals provides advanced care for critically injured or ill children. Our 6-bed private room unit is equipped with the latest technology and our caring staff is dedicated to improving survival
and facilitating the recovery of our patients using an interdisciplinary family-centered approach.
The advanced training and experience of our outpatient pediatric subspecialists prepares them to provide medical care based on the unique needs of each child. The physicians are committed to caring for very sick children through multi-specialty care teams including nurses, social workers, nutritionists and other healthcare professionals so each child receives customized, quality care.
Our subspecialists are available by appointment through referrals made by primary care physicians. Appointments for all locations can be made through the Nunnelee Pediatric Specialty Clinic (operating within the Betty H. Cameron Women’s & Children’s Hospital). Children can be referred for a one-time consultation, treatments for chronic conditions or follow-up care.

We aim to support our families and referral centers and the growth of regional subspecialty services through education, standardized communication and a vision of innovative care models.
When a child is still growing, a disease or condition may require individualized, patient-centered solutions. Our caring and compassionate team of professionals is trained for all levels of treatment our young patients may require. We believe that no one knows a child as well as the parent. We work as a team with parents and pediatricians to provide all levels of care for a sick child and give the parent an active voice in all treatment plans. You are an important link to your child’s healing process and our doctors will keep you thoroughly informed so you can make the right decisions in the best interests of your child and your family.
